What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle, non-invasive evaluation and treatment approach which originated in osteopathy and which addresses the central nervous system to restore health and enhance body functioning. It is performed on a person fully clothed lying down on a massage table. The practitioner uses a soft touch of 5 grams or less to free the central nervous system of any undue pressure and restriction.

It is effective for numerous medical problems associated with physical pain and dysfunction and is an effective treatment modality for enhancing overall health and reversing the impact of emotional stress and trauma on the body's physical health and well-being (a process called SomatoEmotional Release). It is completely safe and recommended for adults, children, and infants.

Please read the list of conditions below that can be addressed with craniosacral therapy.

What Is The Craniosacral System?

The craniosacral system is a core physiological system that consists of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. It extends from the bones of the skull (cranium) down to the sacrum, or tailbone area.

An important function of this system is the production, circulation and reabsorption of a fluid called cerebrospinal fluid which circulates around the brain and in the spine. This essential fluid maintains the physiological environment in which your brain and nervous system develop, live and function.

Since this vital system influences the development and performance of the brain and spinal cord, an imbalance or restriction in it could potentially cause any number of sensory, motor or neurological disabilities.

The fluctuation of this fluid in the central nervous system has a rhythm that is as important as your respiratory or cardiac rhythms. An abnormal rhythm is a sign of sickness or dysfunction.

What Is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a manual medicine that restores the conditions of health in the body and unlocks your natural healing mechanisms. Founded in the United States by Dr. Andrew T. Still in 1874, it is now officially recognized in a large number of countries as an effective alternative or complement to Western conventional medicine.

Osteopathy releases and restores body structures (tissues and fluids) associated with pain and dysfunction. The alignment and motion of all body structures free of restrictions, as designed by nature, is a key element to physiological balance (homeostasis), normal body functioning and health. Do you know, for instance, that a healthy liver travels about 600 meters a day? That a restriction to the motion of cranial bones can cause migraines?

Osteopathy treats the body as a whole, as one living entity where every part is connected and interdependent. The practitioner’s task is to locate the primary imbalance or dysfunction that is causing the symptom, often in a different location in the body. Osteopathy uses non-invasive and safe manipulations that are completely different from chiropractics. They encourage the body to self-correct and heal from within without applying external force.

Osteopathy can assess and correct dysfunction in the whole body, not just the bones: the musculoskeletal system (muscles, articulations, ligaments, fascia, bones etc.), the craniosacral system, the viscera (your organs), the brain, the nervous system, the immune system, the lymphatic system etc. Emotional difficulties can also be addressed with osteopathy. For instance, treating an organ can heal an emotion and vice versa.

It is usually received fully clothed on lying on a massage table.

What is Lymph Drainage Therapy?

Lymph Drainage Therapy is an osteopathic method of stimulating your lymph and body fluids that enhances your health and well-being. Developed by Dr. Bruno Chikly, M.D., D.O. (hon.), it is commonly prescribed by physicians for the treatment of a wide range of medical conditions and has many other general health benefits:

• Elimination of fluid retention
• Deep detoxification of the body
• Regeneration and oxygenation of cells
• Stimulation of the immune system
• Anti-aging
• Reduction of wrinkles and cellulite
• Improvement of skin complexion
• Stress release
• Improved sleep
• Pain release
• Release of emotional trauma

Every cell of the body is immersed in a fluid called the "interstitial fluid" through which it receives its nutritive substances and rejects damaging by-products. It is the vital function of lymphatic vessels to keep this fluid clean by draining away toxins, trapped proteins, fat and most of the wastes produced by the cells' metabolism. Using very gentle and precise strokes, lymph drainage therapy locates and corrects areas of dysfunction in the lymphatic system. The result? Less fluid and toxins in tissues. Healthier cells. Better health.

Please read these instructions to prepare optimally for the drainage. Depending on cases, the prior approval of a medical doctor may be required.
